COMMON NAME: Myrtle (Curry)
BOTANICAL NAME: Backhousia angustifolia
DESCRIPTION: A dense evergreen shrub or small tree. Has distinctive narrow, glossy green leaves. Produces delightful clusters of small white flowers during spring and summer. Leaves and flowers have a magnificent curry scent and flavour.
HEIGHT: The small tree can get up to about 6 metres.
WIDTH: The span of the plant is 2-3 metres.
CLIMATE INFO: Thrives in warm climates and prefers well-drained soils. Native to areas of south-east Queensland all the way down through to mis NSW. Grows well in full sun or part shade. Very adaptable to large pots as well.
GARDEN USES: With its unique narrow foliage and scented flowers, it makes a great feature plant in your garden. Also, if its clipped regularly it can make and interesting hedge option.
CULINARY USES: The leaves can be used as a culinary spice. Used dry or fresh they are a great addition to cooking, particularly curries. The flowers are also edible and have a strong curry aroma.

CURRENT PLANT HEIGHT: Approximately 100mm to 150mm.
